The following is from Roy Hession's autobiography My Calvary Road:
"To apply the truth of 'Not I, but Christ' in practice does not mean mere passivity, though such texts as 'he that hath entered into His rest hath ceased from his own works as God did from His' might at first suggest this.
"Although grace is God working for man rather than man working for God, and although we must come into an end of the latter to experience the former, there must be a right and proper cooperation on our part with that grace of God. Cooperation, mark you, not origination; the origination is wholly His, and we must see where we have taken His place and abdicate.
"But we must then cooperate with Jesus, the great Originator, and there is nothing passive about that. The cooperation needed from us is not merely that of a full surrender, nor only a continual availability to Him, both of which are essential, but above all, faith--especially the faith that accepts that Christ is our life and that therefore His victory over all His foes is ours, and thanks Him for it."
