The Resurrection: Love in Manifest Victory

The following is from an article by J. Rufus Moseley as recorded in the book Ineffable Union With Christ:  Living in the Kingdom (Selected Writings of J. Rufus Moseley, 1927-1937) compiled and edited by Gregory S. Camp:

"On the night before the most holy sacrifice [dying on the cross], He [the Lord Jesus] ate His last pre-resurrection meal with His disciples, washed their feet, instructed them, and gave them the promise of the other Comforter [the Holy Spirit] and of His own manifestation to them, and of His taking up His abode within them.  He prayed for their sanctification and for their union with Him and with each other.

"He entered the garden [of Gethsemane] and gave Himself to the ultimate will of the Father, which was to give Himself in death as He had given Himself in life for the salvation of the world and the redemption of the universe.  He moved on rapidly to the very worst that man at his worst could inflict, and to the very best that the God-man at His best can give in return for man's worst.

"It is precisely this meeting of man's worst with God's best and the glory that followed it, that is to triumph because all men, as they glimpse it [by the Spirit], are drawn unto Him and to His love way of life.  It is by yielding to this drawing, and by giving ourselves to Him and dedicating ourselves to His love way of life that we really celebrate His passion and His resurrection.  Any other celebration is unworthy.

"The death of Jesus calls for our death to our sins, as the resurrection of Jesus calls for our resurrection with Him in His risen life.  It is only as we live this new life that we really celebrate His resurrection."
