God's Sovereignty in Our/ His Situations

The following is from James Philip's wonderful book on how to cope with spiritual depression titled Up Against It.

Consider Job's and your own experience and read C. S. Lewis' perceptive observation:  "God has not been trying an experiment on my faith or love in order to find out their quality.  He knew it already.  It was I who didn't . . . He always knew that my temple was a house of cards.  His only way of making me realise the fact was to knock it down."

Philips writes, "God is daring because he is so sovereign.  He plays with the opposition [notice the first and second chapters of Job].  And it plays into his hands; he is so completely in control that he is always several moves ahead, like a master chess player who simply smiles when his opponent thinks he has trapped him; for whatever move he makes, the master is going to win in the end."

While disturbing at first, this fact is a source of immense rest.
