The Blessings of Waiting

Wong Ming-Dao was imprisoned for twenty-three years and his wife for twenty years for their allegiance to the Lord Jesus.  The following is taken from In the Burning Fiery Furnace and the Lions' Den, which is included in the devotional Wong Ming-Dao Day by Day.  It gives a glimpse of the faith in the Lord Jesus Who sustained him (and Who sustains us):

"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." -- Psalm 7:14

"Those who are able to wait for God are truly blessed.  In the sight of other people, they may seem to be holding up progress, whereas what they achieve is far in excess of what other people achieve.  In the sight of other people, they may seem to be weak and powerless, whereas they are stronger than any other people.  Of a certainty they will 'renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint' (Isaiah 40:31).

"They do not lightly undertake any task but once they do so, they will certainly make a success of it.  They possess the wisdom and power that comes from heaven, so they can do things that other people cannot do.

"Their situations may appear to be very hazardous, whereas it is extremely safe.  The path they are treading may appear to be very rough whereas, in point of fact, it is smooth.  No one is stronger or more established than those who wait for God.  No one is more joyous or more blessed than those who wait for God.

"Learning to wait for God is an extremely difficult and an extremely complicated lesson but, once mastered, far more useful than many other lessons."
