Those Who Trust Can Wait

Wong Ming-Dao was imprisoned for twenty-three years and his wife for twenty years for their allegiance to the Lord Jesus.  The following is taken from In the Burning Fiery Furnace and the Lions' Den, which is included in the devotional Wong Ming-Dao Day by Day.  It gives a glimpse of the faith in the Lord Jesus Who sustained him (and Who sustains us):

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him.  As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth."  -- Hosea 6:3

"There is one discipline that is closely bound up with the practice of waiting for God.  It is to put one's trust in God.

"Only those who trust God are in a position to wait for him.  The reason that we dare to wait for God is that we trust him.  We believe that he will on no account fail us; that he can do the things that we ourselves cannot do; that he is more reliable than anyone in the world; that he will in no circumstances forget us; that he does all things well; that his eyes are watching all who are looking to him and that he hears our petitions.

"The more we trust him, the more we dare to wait for him.  The extent of our trust in God and the extent of our knowledge of God, are in direct proportion to each other.  And only as we know God more, can we trust him more.  No wonder the prophet Hosea directed the Israelites to press on to know God!"
